Japandroids - Celebration Rock

Albums I’ve Been Late On

So I would say my music blog is still sort of running in beta, I am posting this pretty late. On Tuesdays I want to alternate between, expanding my music library and albums I’ve been late on. The latter is going to be a feature where I listen to albums from that I wanted to listen to, but some how didn’t.

I’m bummed I didn’t listen to this earlier. When I saw Japandroids over SXSW I was super into the new songs and readily awaiting the album. However, it ended up coming out when I was getting over school and getting ready for tour so it just didn’t click. As ridiculous as it sounds I think brogaze is a perfect way to describe Japandroids. What with the great distortion tone, lyrics about girls, and getting fucked up.

This LP is definitely more “rocknroll “than the last, but I don’t think that is necessarily a problem. “Younger Us” is my favorite because it hits hard like their older songs. Overall compared to the first album I would say this one is more refined, but less memorable. I wish more songs were like “Younger Us” and “The House That Heaven Built”, but I do enjoy the hell out the album. Maybe not album of the year like I’ve heard, but still awesome.

tl;dr Not as many memorable songs as Post-Nothing, but still really good

Grade: B-

Pants Yell!

Bands You Should Check Out

So this week I’m going to try to move my blog out of beta and actually post every day. I’m starting this week off with one my favorite bands. Easily top three. I like them so much I actually think I like their name. Pants Yell! is incredibly catchy and every album is great. Nicest people too. Literally sent me tabs in high school. I think I almost cried when I heard they were breaking up. They’ve been the soundtrack for every lonely night and every good time for me since I was sixteen. I have so much to say about this band that I almost have nothing to say. In the future when I review older albums of mine I will go in depth, but for the time being just know this band has so much heart.

My friend Tucker had 3/4 of my band, Diving, on his kvrx show. We talked, spun records, and stayed up entirely too late. We had a blast.

Heat Dust

Bands You Should Check Out

Seriously one of my favorite bands right now. It’s really great when some of your really good friends make music at this caliber. Heat Dust is reminiscent of fuzzed out 90s bands such as Dinosaur Jr., but they still have a recognizable sound on their own. They’re on tour right now and really loud. If you’re lucky enough to live in one of these cities check them out! I hope they’re still playing that mcluscky cover.
